Tire Sealant Test - Kenda
A mid-long term test to see how tires react to liquid sealants

End of Test Period - January 4, 2006
Jan 4 2006

Noon

Kenda Nevegal 2.10 Tubeless (UST)

  • Duration of test: Five months, 4 days.
  • No visual external problems.
  • No visual signs of damage to the casing or rubber anywhere on the inside of the tire.

Stans sealant caused no visual or tactile breakdown of the rubber and/or casing of this tire during this test.

Note: This was a static test. The tire was new, never ridden, carried no load and were not flexed/compressed during the test period.

This tire was designed to be used tubeless on UST compatible rims.

  • Deflated tire and popped bead loose.
  • Latex strings on tire and rim bead.
  • Removed tire.

  • Latex is still liquid on the rim.
  • Washed off easily with plain water and a rag.
  • No clogging of the UST valve.

  • About half of sealant is still liquid.
  • Could not hear or feel the sealant moving in the tire.

  • Rinsed the inside of the tire and wiped lightly with a rag.
  • Thin coating of dried sealant on inside of the whole tire except at the valve which was the "bottom" during storage.

  • The two tread thorn holes are in the uncoated area.
  • They have a small "scab" of sealant.
  • Rolled the "scabs" off with my finger.

  • The thorn and staple holes in the sidewall do not have the "scab," just an even dried layer of sealant over the casing.
  • Also removed the latex layer in the area of the other punctures.

  • Cleaned area of the tread thorn punctures.

  • Note that the reddish brown color on the casing in the last three pics is from a reflection of my fingers.
